Para-Sols team takes on 6 hour boot camp challenge

Yesterday some of the Para-Sols team took part in a 6 hour boot camp challenge.

The idea came about a few months ago and at the time we all thought it would be brilliant to enter a Para-Sols team into the event which was billed as ‘The Great Escape’ thinking it would be a fun day out with a bit of getting fit on the side. The volunteers (/unlucky ones) were Cathi, Gary, Isabel, Vicky and Ashleigh.

As time went on and the reality of what this boot camp might actually entail dawned, the confidence of the once enthusiastic team members waivered and everyone became increasingly nervous about the big day.

The night before, the team was instructed to ‘carb-load’ and get a good night’s sleep. Bright and early yesterday (Sunday) morning we made our way to Hamsterley Forest where the boot camp was to happen. On arrival, the first thing we noticed the size and fitness of the other competitors (team ‘Protein Power’ anyone). We felt woefully underprepared, with one team member battling a stomach bug and the rest just back from a series of holidays with lots of food and wine, and zero training!

The day was made up of a series of challenges including tyre flipping, dragging and carrying, an assault course, burpees, push-ups, lunges, hill running and a tug of war. The team spirit was fantastic – everyone was cheering and helping each other out both within our own teams and supporting all the others there.

By the end of the day we were covered in mud from top to tail and full of laughter. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and successfully completed all 6 hours of this gruelling challenge which was a victory in itself. To then find out we came 11th out of 13 was just the icing on the cake!

Needless to say, no one can walk today!

In case you were wondering, our team name was the FUBARs. And if you’re not sure what that means, type (fubar) into Skype chat and see for yourself!
